We’ve all seen them: hammocks from distant and exotic lands brought back as fun souvenirs. Yellow hammocks, orange hammocks, and pink hammocks are common hammock colors used in a variety of cheerful prints. While on vacation, we think they look great in our Dutch interior, but when we get home, it turns out to be a little much. It has the same effect as enthusiastically shopping at hippie stores on vacation. Many women purchase adorable outfits, which unfortunately never see the light of day in the Dutch climate. This is also the first factor to consider when buying a hammock. But there are additional factors to consider. What are they? Read on.
ROSE-COLORED GLASSES
Everything seems (literally) brighter on vacation. So that authentic little shop with those nice hammocks suddenly looks very appealing, and you have a reason to revamp your interior. At such times, remove the rose-colored glasses and accept that things will look different when you return home. Of course, you can bring some (interior) accessories, but always in the style of your own home.
LOCAL?
Furthermore, when sold by a local street vendor, these tropical items, such as hammocks, appear to be very authentic and artisanal. However, this is not always true. Take a close look at the hammock’s materials; you might even find a label with the word ‘made in’ on it. Frequently, this simply indicates a country of origin where wages are low and child labor is not prohibited. Be wary of this, and definitely do not buy such a product.
HONESTY IS THE BEST POLICY
But do you want to maintain the holiday spirit without engaging in these practices? Then there is an alternative solution: buy a beautiful hammock in Europe. In Europe, you can also find the nicest variants, all made fairly and in a style that complements any interior design. Green hammocks, blue hammocks, and red hammocks are all available in Europe. The hammocks from The Relax Company are living proof of this: high quality at a reasonable price.
In short, don’t be fooled by rose-colored vacation glasses; instead, look at the products you want to bring with you honestly and objectively. Enjoy the beauty of everything on vacation, and use the inspiration you gain on vacation to make some new purchases.
