You’ve probably wondered, ‘Is sleeping in a hammock good for you?’ And if so, ‘Is it good for your back?’
Well, you’re not alone in pondering this. A Swiss team of scientists has dedicated a full study to this question. And their findings? Nothing but positive.
FALL ASLEEP FASTER
When you are rocked back and forth, for example in a hammock, you fall asleep faster than when lying in a regular bed. Rocking has a soothing effect on your body. For this reason, babies are also often rocked to sleep. In adults, this works the same way.
Not only do you fall asleep faster when lying in a hammock. You also sleep more soundly in a hammock that gently rocks back and forth. This was revealed by a Swiss study that had subjects sleep in both a bed and a hammock. All subjects slept earlier and more soundly when lying in a hammock. In addition, of course, we speak from our own experience 🙂.
GOOD FOR YOUR BODY
A hammock provides excellent support for your neck and back. We recommend lying in the hammock the way they taught us in South America. Instead of lying straight in a hammock, they lie diagonally in the hammock. By lying diagonally, you spread the hammock open with your body. Your head, torso, and feet are aligned in this way and thus optimally supported—the hammock molds to your body.
A true Relax Company, lying in the hammock the South American way, is less likely to suffer from back pain.
indoor sleeping
Sleeping in the hammock indoors. We recommend it! It is increasingly common for people to swap their bed for a hammock. In a hammock, your weight is better distributed than on a mattress. Pressure points are relieved as a result. Also, if you have back and/or neck problems while sleeping on a mattress, sleeping in the hammock is worth a try.
To sleep in a hammock, we recommend a large hammock. For example, our Stars hammocks, are our largest hammocks. The bigger the hammock, the more comfort. Go lie in it diagonally, you will see that this is ideal! Our hammocks are made of 100% organic cotton, using a special jacquard weaving technique. Because of this weaving technique, the hammock feels extra firm and above all soft. This makes sleeping in the hammock ideal.
For example, you can attach the hammock to two walls. Make sure the walls are sturdy enough to support more than your weight. Use the hammock hanging kit “Makkie” to easily attach the hammock. Another added benefit is that you can easily clean up the hammock or hang it on the side. In no time you can hang the two ends on one hook. Saving a lot of space! You can also easily alternate sleeping in a bed and in the hammock.
outdoor sleeping
During the hot summer nights, sleeping in the hammock outside is highly recommended. Falling asleep under the bright summer stars. No more waking up at night in a hot bedroom but between two trees in the fresh outdoor air. Hang a mosquito net over your hammock to keep the insects at bay. In addition, it can be nice to also put a blanket at the bottom of the hammock and lie on it. This gives you an even cozier feeling and completely blocks out any wind breezes. We are fans of sleeping outside! Are you?
